Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes has missed a club match through injury for the first time in his professional career with the attacker forced to sit out Manchester United's 4-0 Premier League thrashing by Crystal Palace on Monday.

The impressive run for Fernandes, whose injury was undisclosed ahead of the game, spans his time at Novara, Udinese, Sampdoria, Sporting CP and Manchester United.

Fernandes' absence, coupled with Scott McTominay's injury, means United have had 64 cases of injury or illness which have caused a player to miss a match this season.

With the duo of McTominay and Fernandes out, Erik ten Hag picked Mason Mount and Christian Eriksen in his starting lineup, but it was at the defensive end of the pitch that the missing Raphaël Varane, Lisandro Martínez, Victor Lindelöf and Luke Shaw left the visitors most exposed.

Palace sliced through the United backline all night on their way to an easy three points, while handing United a club record 13th Premier League loss this season.

Fernandes also missed one match through illness since joining United in January 2020 -- a 3-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in 2022, and he watched on today as the Old Trafford club's hopes of European qualification ahead of next season slipped further out of reach.

United are in 8th place on 54 points through 35 games, level with Chelsea and two behind Newcastle United in a bid for a spot in the third-tier Europa Conference League.
